I am not paid until this weekend, which means I have about £70 to last me for the next few days, what with being rather overdrawn.
Naturally then, I went out shopping at lunchtime, because there are things I need and for some reason I simply CANNOT WAIT, whatever my financial resources may currently be. Therefore, based on where I went and what I looked at during my lunch break, the following are scientifically proven as being ESSENTIAL purchases at this time...
* two bottles of shower gel (different brands);
* a bottle of shampoo (but I still have enough left actually);
* under-arm roll-on deodorant;
* box of two vacuum packing bags for duvets etc (to replace current one which isn't working);
* set of six moth bags for clothing (lavender-scented, ffs, what's that about? they all seemed to be scented, maybe it's patented moth-repelling technology at work? I haven't kept up with the latest in Moth Science Quarterly or whatever the trade publication is called);
* set of three clothes hangers (to match my existing birch wooden ones, because I have none spare and it can be useful to have more hangers available in times of NEED);
* a plastic holder for cleaning pads and the like with suction cups for sticking to the back of the cupboard door in the toilet, I think (I haven't quite figured out where to put it, I just like the idea of being more organised with the ephemera of cleaning).
... and these qualify as NON-ESSENTIAL...
* bottle of sparkling wine (Chapel Down, v tempting, but don't really NEED it, except for mimosas obv);
* tagine pot;
* any of the vast range of Le Creuset pots and pans;
* Wensleydale cheese and the pear jelly stuff they were serving on crackers at John Lewis Food Hall (OMG it was SO TASTY!) -- danger: mustn't walk through Food Hall in future;
* Global bread knife (I always look, I always defer);
* [redacted] (blimes they aren't half EXPENSIVE);
* bottle of dry sherry (if I'm being perfectly honest, I didn't look for any, and I didn't actually entertain any thought of buying some right now, but this journal has had a theme thus far, and I might as well try and fit it in to EVERY post, eh).
And I also backed quickly away from a woman banging on at some hapless JL staff member about where their chamois leather could be found... "NO! Not leather care products. It's MADE of leather! YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS! YOU IDIOT! WHERE IS YOUR MANAGER? WHERE?!" I didn't really know what it was either (esp. given the pronunciation appears to be "shammy" and not "sham-WA" as I'd have expected), but I've looked it up and now I do.
This entire post has been brought to you by #entitledmiddleclass, because it's too long for Twitter and that's where I usually put that stuff.
